My favorite topic in microbiology class so far has been viruses. I liked the topic because it helped me understand viruses and their structure. In addition, I have learned how to identify and classify them. The topic has also helped me understand the way viruses evolve and interact with other organisms. The microbiology topic on viruses has also been my favorite because I now understand how viruses get to weaken the immunity of a host organism and cause diseases. I also understand that certain viruses can be cultured and used in the development of therapies for certain diseases.

Understanding the basic concepts of microbiology is very beneficial to the nursing field. Microbiology helps nurses, in practice or in research, to understand the concepts of microbial reproduction, genetics, and chemical characteristics. Microbiology in nursing helps nurses efficiently and effectively diagnose and identify new diseases. Furthermore, microbiology on viruses helps nurses to study and understand microorganisms. Such knowledge can be applied in disease control and prevention and in using microorganisms in research for new medications and vaccines. Understanding virus microbiology has also been linked to nurses’ competency to diagnose and control infections (Cox & Simpson, 2018). Acquired infections are common in hospital settings; thus, understanding microbiology helps nurses keep themselves and others within the hospital safe.

Studying microbiology is challenging. However, I have stayed successful in the Microbiology course because I first had an interest in the course topics, especially viruses. Secondly, I have always used my imagination to have fun while learning. When the course materials are challenging, I use my imagination to animate the course in a way that is easy to understand.
